Last Day of Winter

After a couple of warm, sunny and very fine days, the last day of winter is gloomy and rainy. Yesterday's walk in Mt Field with Martin and his brother was really quite good.

Ed's funeral today. It's becoming much more normal in college now.

Much of the evergreen plants are flowering and the deciduous ones are growing leaves again.

Sombre

The president of the college student club passed away suddenly last night, or rather early this morning. Will said he fell, hit his head and went into cardiac arrest at the uni oval while attending the Jane ball.

Well, damn, how the fuck does that happen to someone who's not even twenty-three(?). But apparently there's a police investigation and there will be a coronial enquiry. I'll just listen to the rumors and wait for that report.

The college is in a really sombre mood; very quiet even accounting for the fact that half the people have gone away for the holidays. It's gonna be pretty weird for awhile at least. They've arranged for counsellors to be avaliable but I'm not sure if anyone went to them.

Hey, Ed, here's to you...thanks for the great effort and the friendliness...sorry there's nothing more I can say.

No Go Today

Today, the weather was silly. The forecast said showers in the early afternoon but instead of raining it was foggy...wanted to go for a run today but it's still clouded over and it's only 9 degress. I'll go tomorrow. It's *supposed* to be fine with a high of 16.

I Ask My Love...

I Ask My Love

I ask my love,
To take a walk,
To take a walk,
Down Orchard Road,

Walk Past Mandarin,
To Centrepoint,
We had our lunch,
At MacDonalds

We had filet,
And an apple pie,
And shared a cup,
Of lemon lime

I held her hand,
Look into her eyes,
And asked her to be,
My valentine

For some reason, this is the song that is in my head today...It really is possible to miss BMT when you're 25 and too stressed out studying...

I'm Tired Today...

I'm tired today. Went for a run yesterday and when I was almost back into the uni found that I had dropped a glove. Turned back and went 5 mins over the route but couldn't find it. So now I have one glove. Will maybe need to get get another pair. Grrrr....spend more money >:|

The kitchen's fish and chips were nice last night but went down too late and there was no tartar sauce to go with it.

SHE called last night. Surprise, surprise :D Actually, I said that I would call her but me being the coward that I am didn't. Talked cock (and also not-so-cock things) for almost 2 hours. I'm slightly amazed at how our telephone conversation represents our MSN conversations, down to the "hmmmm..."s.

I really should call her more often, seeing that we are in the same country. But even if I'm quite sure what kind of feelings I should have for her, I don't want to rekindle the kind that would only result in...well, bad results.

Then heard Pei's voice outside and stepped out to talk to her cos very very long time never see her already even though we are neighbours. Sat on the floor in the corridor and talked cock somemore. Super duper late, went to bed only at 1 plus, woke up at 7.30 to do laundary and try to study.

Very very need to study for tests on Tue and Thurs but very very not in the mood. Lucky thing Monday have no class, an extra free day to study.

Chicks' footy final tml. GO BLACK PIGS, STICK IT TO THE MICKS SLUTS!

Guess I'll go for dinner now.

Two Cents On TristeFemme and LX

Here's my two cents on the TristeFemme and LX thingie.

Wah, see, Internet very power ah. Last time no internet how to do this kind of thing? Last time got no such thing as friendster, how to email (but see sidenote) all his friends to tell them what a bastard he is. You wouldn't even know all his friends, but now thanks to friendster you do!

And wah piang, got something to say just post on blogger.com and then someone will post on tomorrow.sg and let the whole of SIN know what a bastard he is.

The point is we're so connected it's scary. Here I am, sitting in UTAS, in a corner of the world but still I am in touch with this thing that is happening 7000 miles away in SIN.

But this is such a different world, a place unto itself. If I am not connected to this world, if I don't read blogs, if I don't visit tomorrow.sg, I would not even know of this even if I lived on the next street over.

Some points to I ponder:

  • Why take it down after it has raised such a hoo-haa? Scared already is it? Did the rule of unintended consequences play a part in this? Was this attention more than bargained for?
  • Why would an average Singaporean care about a angry, rich girl and a high and mighty SAF scholar? Life's a bitch and I can't even get mine in order.
  • What can the people in blogshpere do? Who are we to pass judgement on either one of them? Do we personally know either of them? All we have is what they have said and would that not be tainted and baised? Who are we to say that he lacks integrity or that she's just vindictive?
  • But it's an interesting social issue and worthy of discussion in a hypoethical sense.
  • Will this give Durex advertising ideas?
  • Scully this is just a experiment ran by some NUS social scientist.

We can empathise and sympathise but at the end of the day, the only resonable thing we can say about them is that they erred in their judgement. Well, poor kid.

Sidenote: But really, how do you email someone else's entire friend list at once? If it's your own you can use the Bulletin Board but if it's someone else's I think the only way is to send messages individually. I tried. It must be one very angry person to want to suffer through that.

Unrelated note: Graeme said in class on Thursday that Lindsay has resigned. The class was quite sad to hear that. Told Ee Wah later and she was like "What!" Prob pple playing politics again. Can't get away from that, even in academia where I hope they are smarter than the average person on the street.

Mt Wellington & Mt Nelson

Trip to Mt. Wellington today. Arranged and paid for by Accom Services which means poor Muk (who never comes along) has to do all that work of arranging for the buses and getting herself headaches when too many people turn up.

Plenty of snow. Played around with the snow and it was time to go back all too soon.

The snow was starting to melt and it was too slippy to bushwalk alone so I didn't although I felt like doing that. Came back at lunchtime, went up to that track to Mt Nelson that I always wanted to take and found that Brian really was telling the truth when he said that there was a flight of stairs from the uni up to Nelson.

Sometimes when I think about that mountain it comes to me as Well Mountington. No idea why.

Dinner was stir-fried chicken with vegetables and for some reason I was served a mountain of it. Although it sucked, I almost surprised myself by almost finishing it.

Was a nice day, really

It Snowed!

It snowed! It bloody snowed! It was so cold that I couldn't get myself out of bed then I took a peek at the window and it was all white outside! Out of bed in an instant, washed up and joined the crowd outside playing with the snow. Was starting to melt by the time I had to go for classes.

And now it's snowing again. It's so beautiful. Too bad I have so many classes today, I can just watch the snow fall all day long. Or maybe it's a novelty to ne. Nevertheless, this makes all the cold worth it :)

Roads Closed

Just heard on the radio that plenty of roads are closed. The road to the top of Mt Wellington is closed, that mean there must be snow and ice at the summit. I wish I could be there now. And here I am comfortable in my heated room. :(

In a Bad Mood

In a bad mood. Need cheering up. For the first time since I came here, I wanna just pack up and go home. It's not like feeling that I wanna give up but I'm just tired and I want a life where I do not have to spend nights and weekends doing readings and writing assignments. I think what I need is a good bushwalk. Bloody crazy weather, can't go running this week.

Another Day

Well, one week on, the Lindsay mystery partly solved.

The school had Graeme Tonks come down from Launie to teach the unit. He's a good teacher, more energetic than Lindsay and doesn't mumble but maybe not as knowledgeable. But it doesn't really matter cos the majority of what we learn will come through discussions with fellow students anyway.

But anyway, Graeme said that Lindsay had an "altercation" with a senior menber of staff and now Lindsay's on leave indefinitely and so he's taking over for the rest of the semester.

He did share with us something that I found rather interesting.

He called his his worldview. On both extremes are the actions/things that are clearly wrong. In the middle are the grey areas. No white area. Most people bounce around left and right in the grey area. Some bounce around more, some bounce around less.

Rest of the day isn't worth mentioning. Just another lesson-filled Thursday. The kitchen served us a crappy lunch after an excellent appetiser for formal dinner last night.

Haven't seen Pei for two day...hmmm, maybe should go knock on her door.

Hail

Hail: Precipitation of ice pellets when there are strong rising air currents.

It hailed today. Damn cold. And it was so warm yesterday it was possible to wear nothing but t-shirts and shorts. Strange Tassie weather.
