Labours

Labour Day long weekend. Every Labour Day should fall on a Friday so that worker bees like us can take a long weekend off. In fact all public holidays should fall on a Friday.

Wishful thinking of course.

Went back to office today as Art and Hazel when warehouse sale-ing nearby. Got a few essential things done and install Ubuntu 9.04 onto the laptop using office eletricity :)

Saw's there alone (poor thing) but at least he lives near by.

<yawn> time to sleep.

Naming the New University

The MOE wants the public to name the 4th Uni.

I suggested: Temasek University

Explanation for Choice of Name (in no more than 100 words): Got Singapore, got Nanyang, cannot use Ngee Ann, so the next choice is Temasek lor

Singapore mah, what else? University of Changi meh?

NDP Flyby

Waiting at the western end of the Esplanade Bridge, just behind the Merlion, waiting for the NDP final rehearsal to happen. The flag-bearing Chinook escorted by 3 Apaches approaching from the north.

Committing

I think I am about to commit the cardinal sin. I think I am about ot fall in love with a colleague who is going to be my subordinate. And I am not unhappy about it.

More Work

I tried teaching Arlene for the forth time yesterday the documentation flow. She still doesn't quite get it and I don't blame her cos it took me more than a month of being really on the job to understand it too.

She's not unintelligent or anything but I had been hoping that with her 6 years of experience on a main line operator, she'll pick things up more quickly. Maybe I'm just a bad teacher.

Took her out for lunch to try and cheer her up alittle but not quite sure it worked. She did open up alittle and told me she didn't like the job. Not sure if she meant she regetted coming to SIN to work though. Well, it's tough, going to another country to work, where the food is unfamiliar, the people talk loudly and in a strange accent, and work habits are different. I wonder if the money (which is not that great) is worth it. At least she's on a S-Pass instead of the more restrictive Work Permit.

I missed Hobart today.

2007

And it's 2007. Feels no different from 2006. But it's good to have a long weekend to rest.
